Vancouver Family Law Lawyer
Edith Szilagyi is a family lawyer with experience representing clients in both the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court of British Columbia. Her practice focuses on family law matters, including parenting arrangements, child and spousal support, property division, and other issues arising from separation.
Edith moved to Coquitlam, British Columbia with her family as a teenager. When it came time to attend law school, she decided to pursue her legal education in Australia, where she completed her law degree and was called to the New South Wales Bar in December 2009.
Edith began her legal career as a criminal lawyer with Aboriginal Legal Services in Newcastle, New South Wales. She later joined NLS Law in Broadmeadow, where she practised in the areas of children’s law, family law, and victims’ compensation law.
In 2010, Edith returned home to British Columbia to settle in Coquitlam with her young family. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in May 2014. After practising with two law firms, Edith opened her own law practice in Port Moody in 2016. Operating her own practice gave Edith valuable experience not only as a lawyer, but also as a business owner, and strengthened her practical, client-focused approach to legal services.
Edith’s career has also included work beyond private practice. She served as a practice advisor at the Law Society of British Columbia, where she provided guidance and support to lawyers on practice management and professional responsibility issues. She also worked as a staff lawyer at Seniors First BC, assisting vulnerable older adults and advocating for clients in need of practical legal support.
Edith believes that court should often be a last resort and works hard to help clients resolve matters in a practical and constructive way whenever possible. At the same time, she understands that court intervention is sometimes necessary. Over the years, she has successfully represented clients in both the Supreme Court and the Provincial Court of British Columbia.
Edith’s approach is clear, compassionate, and practical. She understands that family law matters are deeply personal and often stressful, and she works closely with clients to help them understand their options, make informed decisions, and move forward with clarity.
Outside of work, Edith enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. She loves crocheting and has a tradition of making crochet gifts for family members every Christmas, whether they ask for them or not. She is also an avid reader and a lifelong science fiction fan, with a particular fondness for Star Trek: The Next Generation, Doctor Who, and new science fiction series.
